World Refugee Day is an international day organised every year on 20 June by the United Nations. The world honour’s the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. On Friday each class read books and did different activities to raise awareness and build empathy for who live as refugees.
Year 5 focused on ‘Kindness’ and ‘Welcoming’ Here are some important messages from our Year 5 children:
“At CTK we welcome and celebrate all cultures.”
“We are a welcoming family to all asylum seekers and refugees.”
“Today on world refugee day, we have learnt the reasons why people flee
their homes in search of safety – War, Violence, Conflict, Persecution.”
Learning about these important global issues supports out journey as a School of Sanctuary and helps us become a more welcoming and empathetic to those seeking sanctuary.
